EAST AFRICA SIGNATURE SAFARI
Overview
Itinerary
Day 1 – Nairobi Serena Hotel (Nairobi) B&B
Your day: Touch down in Nairobi and transfer to your city base, a calm, green corner close to the heartbeat of Kenya’s capital. It’s a day to arrive, exhale, and let the journey catch up with you. Check in, shower off the flight, and take a slow walk through the gardens or relax by the pool.
Evening is free to enjoy the hotel’s restaurants and bar, or head out into the city if you’re in the mood. Your safari briefing can be done today or tomorrow morning, so you know exactly what to expect once you leave the city and head for the bush.
Day 2 – Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge (Amboseli National Park) FB
Your day: Leave Nairobi and drive south toward the Tanzanian border, watching as the city thins, the air clears, and Kilimanjaro begins to appear on the horizon. Arrive in Amboseli in time for lunch and a short rest before your first afternoon game drive on the plains.
This is elephant country: big herds moving slow and sure across the dust, framed by snow-capped Kili when the clouds lift. You might also see buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, hyena, and plenty of birdlife in the wetlands. As the sun drops, head back to the lodge for dinner and your first night under African stars.
Day 3 – Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge (Amboseli National Park) FB
Your day: Start early to catch Mount Kilimanjaro at her best, often clear and blue in the first light. Work the swamp edges and open plains for big tusker elephants, lions resting after a night’s hunt, cheetahs scanning from low mounds, and rich birdlife in and around the marshes.
Lunch can be a relaxed picnic in the park with cold drinks from the vehicle fridge, or back at the lodge depending on the day’s rhythm. In the afternoon, explore more of Amboseli’s different habitats or simply opt for a shorter drive and extra time at the pool. Optional extras here can include a cultural visit to a local Maasai community or a guided walk just outside the park.
Day 4 – Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (Ngorongoro Crater) FB
Your day: Cross into Tanzania and travel through the open country toward Arusha and the soaring escarpments of the Great Rift Valley. As you climb into the Ngorongoro highlands, the air cools and the road winds through farms and forest before suddenly opening at the crater rim.
Arrive at the lodge in time for a late lunch and your first look into the caldera — an immense natural amphitheatre teeming with wildlife. The afternoon is yours to settle in, sip something warm on the terrace, and watch the light slide across the crater floor. Tomorrow, you’ll head down into the heart of it.
Day 5 – Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (Ngorongoro Crater) FB
Your day: After breakfast on the rim, descend the steep road into the crater for a full day on the floor. This is one of the best places in Africa for consistent game viewing: lions in the open, large buffalo herds, elephant bulls near the marsh, hippos in the pools, and a wealth of birds around the lakeshore. With luck, you may glimpse endangered black rhino moving across the plains.
Lunch is a picnic in the wild, set at a scenic spot with cold drinks from the car fridge. Your guide keeps the pace relaxed so you have time to watch behaviour, not just grab quick photos. By late afternoon, climb back to the rim for sunset, a hot shower, and a fireside dinner with that extraordinary view in front of you.
Day 6 – Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (Central Serengeti) FB
Your day: Leave the highlands and roll down through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area into the Serengeti, where the world opens into endless plains and scattered rocky kopjes. Depending on the season, you may pass huge herds of wildebeest and zebra moving across the short grass or find resident game spread out under the big sky.
Lunch is usually a picnic en route with chilled drinks from the vehicle fridge, turning the journey into your first Serengeti game drive. In the afternoon, work the Seronera valley and river loops for leopard in the trees, lions on the rocks, elephants, giraffe, hippos, and more. Evening brings a relaxed dinner at the lodge and a night under a bright, star-filled sky. If a sunrise balloon flight appeals, tomorrow is the ideal morning.
Day 7 – Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (Central Serengeti) FB
Your day: Dawn is when the Serengeti feels most alive, and today is yours to explore at an easy but focused pace. Head out early to catch predators on the move, antelope in the cool air, and soft morning light on the plains. Depending on the time of year, you might drive toward known migration areas or concentrate on river lines and kopjes for big cats.
Lunch is a picnic somewhere beautiful, with cold drinks from the fridge and time to simply sit and watch the savannah breathe. The afternoon can be as active or relaxed as you like: track specific species, explore a new area, or return to the lodge earlier for a swim and a slower evening. Optional extras here include a sunrise hot-air balloon flight with champagne bush breakfast, or a private bush dinner under the stars.
Day 8 – Kirawira Serena Camp (Western Corridor) B&B
Your day: Move west across the Serengeti toward the Grumeti River and the Western Corridor, a region of rolling hills, riverine forest, and broad valleys. This is classic big-game country, with giraffe, elephants, buffalo, and, in season, dramatic river crossings by the migrating herds.
Arrive at camp and sink into a slightly slower rhythm: canvas tents, wide views, and evening light spilling across the landscape. Depending on timing, you may have an afternoon drive along the river for hippos, crocodiles, and predators working the banks. Dinner tonight is at your own pace, with the night sounds of the river valley as your soundtrack.
Day 9 – Mara Serena Safari Lodge (Masai Mara National Reserve) B&B
Your day: Today you transition from Tanzania’s Serengeti to Kenya’s Masai Mara, staying within the same vast ecosystem but crossing an invisible line on the map. Depending on the final routing, this is usually a combination of road and light-aircraft travel with wonderful aerial views of the plains below.
Arrive in the Mara, settle into your lodge perched above the rolling savannah, and head out for an afternoon game drive. The Mara is prime big-cat territory — lions, cheetahs, and leopards — alongside plenty of plains game and, in season, the great herds. After sundown, return for dinner and a quiet evening above the river and grasslands.
Day 10 – Mara Serena Safari Lodge (Masai Mara National Reserve) B&B
Your day: A full day to explore the Mara, planning your drives with your guide according to what you most want to see. Mornings are about soft light, fresh air, and the possibility of predators on the move; midday brings a quieter rhythm and time to enjoy your lodge; afternoons pick up again as animals stir and the light turns golden.
You might follow lion prides, scan river loops for leopard, track cheetahs working the open grass, or simply sit with large herds of elephant, buffalo, and antelope. Picnic lunches give you the freedom to stay out longer, with cold drinks from the fridge when you want them. Optional extras here include a sunrise balloon safari, a visit to a local Maasai community, or a hosted sundowner on a ridge.
Day 11 – Masai Mara to Nairobi (End of Itinerary) B&B
Your day: Enjoy a final breakfast looking out over the Mara, with time for an optional short game drive depending on your flight schedule. Then transfer to the airstrip or travel by road back to Nairobi, watching the savannah give way to towns, farms, and finally the city skyline where your journey began.
On arrival in Nairobi, you can connect straight to your international flight or add a day room, dinner, or extra nights in the city. If you’re not quite ready to leave Africa behind, we can build in a beach extension to the Kenyan coast or Zanzibar as a natural next step.

Transfers
Good to Know
Packing: Light, neutral clothing for daytime; a warm layer for Ngorongoro evenings and early mornings; a hat, sunglasses, and comfortable closed shoes. Soft bags fit better in 4×4 vehicles and small aircraft than hard suitcases.
Power & Wi-Fi: Kenya and Tanzania use 230V, 50Hz, British three-pin plugs (Type G). Most city hotels and many lodges offer Wi-Fi in shared areas; signal is often limited in remote parks.
Tipping: As a guideline, around US $10–15 per guest per day for your guide, and a shared tip box for lodge teams if you’d like. Tipping is always discretionary.
Seasons & Wildlife: Amboseli’s elephants and Kilimanjaro views are strong year-round, with clearest mountain views often in early morning. Serengeti–Mara migration movements vary by year; your guide will focus on the best current areas. Predators and resident game can be seen in all seasons.
Visas & Health: Passports should be valid 6+ months beyond travel dates. Many nationalities can obtain visas on arrival or online for Kenya and Tanzania; check current requirements before travel. Travel insurance and optional Flying Doctors cover are recommended.
