NGORONGORO & TARANGIRE SAFARI

Ngorongoro Crater – Tarangire National Park • 3 Days / 2 Nights
Scheduled small-group departures Min 2 pax FB (Full Board)

Overview

A short, punchy safari that still feels complete. Start on the cool rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, looking down into one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries, then drop into the baobab valleys of Tarangire where elephant herds and big skies set the tone. It’s a perfect add-on to a longer trip, or a stand-alone long weekend in the bush.

Expect picnic lunches in wild places, cold refreshments from the vehicle fridge, and expert local guides who speak English, French, and German. With just three days, the pace is focused but unhurried, giving you time to really watch the wildlife, not just drive past it.

Lodges:
Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (1 night) • Tarangire Sopa Lodge (1 night)

Itinerary

Day 1 – Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge (Ngorongoro Crater) FB
Stay: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge — Standard Double Room

Your day: Leave Arusha and climb steadily into the Ngorongoro highlands. As the air cools and the landscape turns green, the road winds through farms, forests, and villages, before finally reaching the crater rim. Arrive in time for lunch and that first unforgettable view down into the caldera.

Spend the afternoon at an easy pace. Walk the terrace, watch clouds drift across the bowl below, and soak up the sense of space and altitude. With the evening fire lit and the air turning crisp, it’s the perfect soft landing before tomorrow’s full crater descent.

Included: Road transfer from Arusha • Accommodation & three meals (Full Board)
Day 2 – Tarangire Sopa Lodge (Tarangire National Park) FB
Stay: Tarangire Sopa Lodge — Standard Room

Your day: After an early breakfast on the rim, descend to the crater floor for a concentrated game drive in one of Africa’s richest wildlife habitats. Look for lion prides in the open grasslands, heavy-tusked elephant bulls in the swamps, black rhino when luck is on your side, and hippos and flamingos around the lakeshore. The scenery and density of animals make every turn feel cinematic.

Lunch is a picnic in the wild, set at a scenic spot with cold drinks from the vehicle fridge. In the afternoon, drive out of Ngorongoro and continue to Tarangire, where baobab-dotted hills and elephant country take over. Arrive at your lodge in time to freshen up, enjoy the views, and settle into a quieter, more classic bush rhythm before dinner.

Included: Full-day Ngorongoro Crater game drive • Road transfer to Tarangire • Accommodation & three meals (Full Board)
Day 3 – End of Itinerary (Tarangire to Arusha) FB

Your day: Wake to the sounds of Tarangire — birds in the trees, maybe elephants moving through the valley. After breakfast, head out for a final game drive, working the river lines and open clearings where you might see large elephant herds, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and, with luck, lions or leopards resting in the shade.

Enjoy one last picnic stop with cold refreshments from the fridge, then begin the drive back to Arusha. You’ll arrive by late afternoon, with three compact days of big landscapes and real wilderness still fresh in your mind. From here, connect to onward travel or continue with a beach add-on in Zanzibar.

Included: Morning Tarangire game drive • Road transfer to Arusha • Breakfast, lunch & park fees

Good to Know

Packing: Light, neutral clothes for daytime; a warm layer for Ngorongoro evenings; a hat and comfortable shoes. Soft bags fit better in 4×4 vehicles than hard suitcases.

Power & Wi-Fi: 230V, 50Hz, British three-pin plugs (Type G). Most lodges have Wi-Fi in shared areas, but expect patchy signal in remote parks.

Tipping: Around US $10–15 per guest per day for your guide, plus small tips for lodge teams if you’d like.

Seasons & Wildlife: June–Oct is dry with strong predator and elephant viewing. Nov–May is green and full of newborns. Wildlife is always wild and sightings can’t be guaranteed, but Ngorongoro and Tarangire are consistently rewarding.

Travel Notes: Passport valid 6+ months; tourist visa typically US $50 (US passport holders currently US $100). Travel insurance and Flying Doctors cover are recommended.
