EXPLORER SERENGETI FOCUS 2026
Overview
Itinerary
Day 1 – Elewana Tarangire Treetops (Tarangire Area) FB
Your day: Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Arusha to the baobab-dotted landscapes of Tarangire. Enter the wildlife-rich conservancy surrounding Treetops, enjoying game viewing en route.
Arrive at your spacious treehouse suite overlooking the hills and marula trees. Enjoy sundowners by the pool followed by dinner beneath the stars, with wildlife often visiting the nearby waterhole.
Day 2 – Tarangire (Full Day Safari) FB
Your day: Enjoy a full day exploring Tarangire National Park, home to Tanzania’s largest elephant populations and iconic baobab forests. Depending on the season, huge herds of zebra and wildebeest gather along the Tarangire River.
Your guide will design the day based on wildlife movement, with the option of a picnic lunch in the bush or a relaxed lunch back at camp before heading out again for golden-hour sightings.
Day 3 – Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp (Central Serengeti) FB
Your day: After breakfast, drive via the Ngorongoro highlands into the legendary Serengeti. Optional stop at Olduvai Gorge (supplement applies). Continue into the Central Serengeti, one of Africa’s richest wildlife regions.
Arrive at Pioneer Camp, styled after the mobile camps of the 1930s. Set amid the Moru Kopjes, this area offers exceptional resident big-cat sightings year-round.
Consider switching to Migration Camp if travelling:
- Late May – June: Western Corridor movements near the Grumeti River
- November: Short northbound migration
Day 4 – Central Serengeti (Full Day Safari) FB
Your day: A full day exploring the Central Serengeti. Look for lions along the river lines, scan kopjes for leopards, and track cheetahs on the open plains. Your guide will tailor the day to maximise sightings.
Enjoy a picnic lunch or return to camp during the midday heat. Evenings at Pioneer evoke the romance of old-world safaris, complete with campfire stories under the stars.
Day 5 – Elewana The Manor (Ngorongoro Area) FB
Your day: Drive to the rolling coffee estates near Ngorongoro and check into The Manor, styled after a Cape Dutch homestead. Enjoy a refined afternoon of high tea, horse riding (optional), or relaxation by the fireplace.
This is your most elegant night of the safari — a welcome contrast before the next morning’s descent into the famed Crater.
Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater & Return to Arusha HB/BB
Your day: Descend early into the Ngorongoro Crater for a morning of exceptional wildlife viewing. This UNESCO World Heritage Site hosts dense populations of predators, grazers, and unique high-altitude ecosystems.
Enjoy a picnic lunch before ascending the rim and returning to Arusha, concluding your 6-day Explorer Serengeti Focus safari.
