KILIMANJARO LUXURY TREKKING — MACHAME ROUTE

Mount Kilimanjaro • 8 Days / 7 Nights
Luxury Walk-In Tents Private Dining Tent Full Board on Trek Min. 1 Pax

Overview

The Machame Route — also known as the “Whiskey Route” — is one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and best-paced trails. This upgraded luxury version includes walk-in en-suite tents with private toilet & hot shower system, a private dining setup, and a dedicated mountain team.

The journey begins at Salinero Millie Lodge before entering the lush Machame rainforest. The route climbs through moorlands to Shira Plateau, rises toward the Lava Tower for acclimatization, traverses the stunning Barranco Wall, and positions you for a summit push from Barafu. After descending to Mweka Camp, your final night is spent relaxing at San Salinero Moshi.

Accommodation:
Salinero Millie Lodge (Night 1) • Luxury Walk-In Tents on Mount Kilimanjaro (Nights 2–6) • San Salinero Moshi (Night 7)

Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival in Tanzania • Salinero Millie Lodge HB

Your day: Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to Salinero Millie Lodge — the only lodge located just 200m from the Machame Gate. Enjoy a warm welcome, dinner, gear check, and early rest before tomorrow’s climb.

Day 2 — Machame Gate to Machame Camp FB

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration. Begin hiking through dense, misty rainforest — one of the most atmospheric sections of the whole mountain.

Arrive to your luxury walk-in tent (private toilet, hot shower, raised bed, thick mattress, and dining tent). The first night can be cool — rest well for tomorrow’s ascent.

Day 3 — Machame to Shira Camp FB

A steep climb out of the forest leads into moorlands with open views of Kibo’s glaciers. Continue across rocky ridges onto the dramatic Shira Plateau.

A hot meal awaits in your private dining tent with sweeping views across the plateau.

Day 4 — Lava Tower Acclimatization • Barranco Camp FB

Ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600m for critical acclimatization — expect thin air, cooler winds, and dramatic volcanic formations.

Descend into Barranco Valley for overnight. The camp sits beneath towering cliffs and hanging glaciers — one of the most beautiful sites on Kilimanjaro.

Day 5 — Barranco Wall • Barafu Camp FB

Begin with the famous Barranco Wall — a fun, non-technical scramble with unmatched views. Continue upward toward Barafu, entering the alpine desert zone.

Arrive early evening for dinner and rest. Your summit attempt begins tonight.

Day 6 — SUMMIT DAY • Uhuru Peak • Mweka Camp FB

Begin climbing at 23:30. After 6–7 hours, reach Stella Point for sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa (5,895m).

Descend to Barafu for rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp for your final night in the luxury tent setup.

Day 7 — Final Descent • San Salinero Moshi FB

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. After signing the summit register and receiving certificates, transfer to San Salinero Moshi for hot showers, soft beds, and a well-deserved celebration dinner.

Day 8 — Departure B&B

Enjoy breakfast before your transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport or onward safari connection.
